Sharing Great Finds With You!

Ipsy – February

I love my Ipsy bag this month!!
Not only is it a great selection of products but four of
the all five items I received are from cruelty free companies 🙂

February Theme:  The Look Of Love

IMG_5411a

Seems to be a black and pink theme…

IMG_5420a

I really dig February and Valentine’s Day!
(Why yes, I am a total dork!)
However, after reading the theme I cannot
get that freaking ABC song out of my head now…

Eyetini Cordial Cream Shadow in Spiced Rum
Retail $18 for .14 oz – Full Sized Sample

This is a great base for eyeshadow.  I have to use a light touch or it gets dark.
It reminded me of MAC Paints – just creamier.

Nu·Me Intense Renewal Hair Mask
Retail $29 for 6 fl oz – Sample Value $4.83 for 1 fl oz

I have course wavy hair that sucks up product.
This stuff is amazing!
My hair felt hydrated for at least four days!!!
That never happens

This product would be too heavy for thin or fine hair.
Also, I could not find any information regarding this
being cruelty free but I did contact the company.
Will update with their response.

Update 3/5/14:  Nu·Me contacted me and let me know
that their products are NOT tested on animals!

City Color Be Matte Blush in Fresh Melon
Retail $2.99 – Full Sized Sample

This was not my color – peaches do not look good with my skin.
And this has a very orangy/peachy tone to it.
However, I did appreciate how well it worked.
My girlfriend next door really loves it!

Pop Beauty Plump Pout Lip Gloss Mini in Peony Petal
Retail $16 for .3 oz / 8.5 g – Sample Value $7.53 for .14 oz / 4 g

This is the first Pop Beauty product I actually like!
I was scared when it first went on – VERY pink
but then it went sheer.  My hubby noticed it right away
and in a good way 😉

It does not plump my lips and I still can’t get past all of the
mineral oil they use.  But it’s not horrible.

Zoya Nail Polish in Odette
Retail $9 for .5 fl oz – Full Sized Sample

Soooo happy I received this lilac color.  It is very neutral
without being boring!  A great addition to my spring line up!

Total Value for my February Ipsy bag – $42.35

Ipsy continues to thrill me every month.
I love that they are supporting more cruelty free companies.
I hope that one day they will offer us the choice to only receive cruelty free items.

Birchbox – October

ZOWIE!
I live on the west coast, and this was the fastest I have received my Birchbox!
I’m digging the quick turnaround!

October’s Theme:  Beauty Buzz

IMG_4927

Nothing LOOKS scary – but let’s take a closer look…

BB10.13a

Our list of fun.  Looks like this month they are focusing on
products with the most buzz.

BB10.13b

Pop Beauty Aqua Lacquer in Flowering Fuchsia
Retail $14 for .34 fl oz / 10 ml – Full Size Sample

I was so excited when I read on the product list that this contained jojoba oil.
Then I looked at the ingredients – MINERAL OIL – #1 on the list?!?  SERIOUSLY?!?!
Why would you waste good jojoba oil on a product with cheap petroleum
based man-made oil?  When ChapStick is the better choice that’s kinda bad.

Dr. Brandt Mircrodermabrasion Skin Exfoliant
Retail $78 for 2 fl oz / 60 g – Sample Value $9.75 for .25 fl oz / 7.5 g

I loved this!  It reminds me of the Vasanti Brighten Up but with a finer texture.
It left my skin feeling super soft.  However, it is over twice the price of the
Brighten Up – so I will be sticking with Vasanti – unless I find a killer deal.

Miss Jessie’s Original Pillow Soft Curls
Retail $22 for 8.5 fl oz / 250 ml – Sample Value $2.55 for 1 fl oz / 29 ml

Okay first the good – this made my hair feel uh-may-zing!!
My hair was silky feeling and felt light almost airy – and I have super
thick course hair.  I never felt my hair like this.

Now the bad…

….Oh Dear God does this smell bad :-\  They made it to smell like a fabric
softener – and it does – times a hundred!!!  We don’t even use commercial
fabric softeners – so the last thing I want is to smell like I spilled Downey
on my head.  I hope they come up with unscented – I’d buy it by the gallon then.

BB10.13c

Benefit Fake Up in Medium
Retail $24 for 0.12 oz / 3.5 g – Sample Value $3.43 for 0.01 oz / .5 g

Kind of funny we got this in October – because it reminds me of grease paint
that we used at Halloween when I was a kid.  Their theory is great – but the
execution does not work.  It actually acentuated fine lines around my eyes –
ones I did not notice so much.  Plus, it did not play well with my foundation.

ChapStick Hydration Lock in Vanilla Crème
Retail $2.99 for .15 oz / 4 g – Full Size Sample

It’s ChapStick.
Not any different from the rest of the ChapSticks I have tried – except the Vanilla isn’t gross.
It’s cool to have for the upcoming cold weather – and nice as a bonus.
Plus, we got a $1 off coupon.  That’s cool.

Total Value for my October Birchbox – $32.72

This was a decent box.  I had some hits and couple of misses – but that is what I love
about these subscriptions.  I get to try things I normally would not.
It would be cool if they went a little nuts for Halloween –
but the scent of the Pillow Soft Curls was frightening enough 😉
