September’s Theme: Escape To the Northwest
Destination: Oregon
Wow! It’s impressive looking – but let’s break it down.
Package list along with a head’s up for next month.
Moon Oregon Travel Guide
Retail $21.99
This is a nice guide. Not sure I would spend $22 for one if given the choice
but it’s cool to have the next time we head down to Oregon.
I will say it is well laid out – so it is user-friendly!
Metolius Tea & Apothecary – ‘Emma’
Retail – $10 for Small Tin
Not really our cup of tea. Too earthy for our palette.
Kind of wish they would have gone with a basic mint, green or black tea.
However, this did not inspire us to want to order more.
Primitive Lights Bees Wax Cinnamon Roll Votive
Retail – $4
How cute is this?!?!
I wish you could smell it – it’s very cinnamony!
We loved this candle – would purchase these for gifts.
Molly Muriel – ‘Volcanic Bliss’ Soap
Retail – $6
Maybe it’s just us – but if you are trying to get new business
black soap may not be the best choice.
Not so great with white wash cloths either!
I had to use shampoo to get the lava out of the cloth
I did look at their website and I am sad they didn’t send the ‘Butter Up’ (Shea Butter)
with the cold dry weather around the corner that may have been lovely.
Volcanic dirt and menthol is not our idea of “Bliss”
Update: We have been using this for a few days now really like it. Our skin is VERY soft!
Still a pain in the butt to use with white linens – but we appreciate it more 🙂
Portland Bee Balm
Retail – $2.75
It’s a nice balm. Not very moisturizing – very waxy.
It will work to protect your lips against cold and wind – but not to soften.
Doug’s Nuts ‘Original Blend’
Retail – $5.95
These are yummy – we enjoyed them very much.
No plans to order a case – but if we saw them at a store
during a road trip we would grab a bag!
Oregon Rain Soap – ‘Portland Rose’ Lotion
Retail – $8
(misprinted on list as $8.99)
Couldn’t even try this the smell was so over powering
and that was with the protective cover under the cap
still on!!!
Looking at their website this would not have been the
scent I would choose to sent to multiple people.
‘Unscented’ or ‘Oregon Rain’ would have been best.
Wooden Pumice Brush
Retail – $1
(Listed as $5.99 – but you can one just like this at the dollar store!)
Including this brush makes no sense really.
It’s not handcrafted in Oregon using pumice from Mount St. Helens
or wood from fallen trees in the national forest.
Nice to have an extra – but kind of an odd add in.
Grounds For Change – ‘Cafe Femenino’
Retail – $7.95 for 8 oz – Sample Value $5.95
(Listed as $10.45?)
We LOVE Grounds For Change coffee!
One of the local coffee houses we enjoy uses their coffee – so it was
nice to see them get some love and this is a great flavor to try out!
Definitely will be ordering more!
Oregon Orchard – ‘Cherry Chocolate’ Hazelnuts
Retail – $3.29
Have to admit – we were scared of these…
Would the taste be cloying?
Would the chocolate be waxy?
The taste was actually Uh-may-zing!!
I plan on chopping these up and adding them
to our homemade Cherry ice cream!
Total Value for our September Escape box – $68.93
Total Value according to Escape’s price list – $79.41
I used to live in Portland – so I was excited to get this and see what they came up with.
It’s not bad – but I think not including Pacifica or Jenteal is a missed opportunity.
As for the value – eh.
We spent $39.95 on this. So on paper we got “our money’s worth.”
I am not sure if the people who procure the items for the boxes choose the scents –
or they just get sent whatever. If Escape makes the sections this may not be for us –
it’s not as much fun if you receive a product you can’t try because of the way it smells.
It would be great if Escape set up a way for subscribers to review the items they received so they
can figure out what works with their subscribers – and what doesn’t.
Next month is Hawaii.
We just moved back from Oahu in 2009 so we are curious see how they do.
Will they include Maui Natural Organics? A Koa wood bookmark?
Kukui Nut necklace? Alaea Sea Salt? Macadamia nuts (duh…)?
Guess we will all find out next month!
